1. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for our media product would probably be young
adults starting from the age of 15. This is because we do
focus on the inflicting of the pain but we do not show it, it is
more that the audience know what ha happened rather than
see it happening. I think it is also for young adults as it is not
only violence it is quite seductive as well.
Other films that could be seen as a bit similar to ours is the film
'Misery' a film made from a Stephen King novel. This is could
be seen as similar to ours as it is about a woman who is
obsessed with this writer who gets stuck near her house and
she traps him there. This film mainly appeals to young adults
also, probably from the age of 16 due to there being quite a
bit of violence that you don’t see loads of but there is a lot
there. It would also appeal to older people as well, both men
and women as it is very creepy and disturbing, therefore not
one that would be too young for them that would become
boring. This may be where it is different to our film as I think
our film would not really appeal to older audiences like this
does as it is not really scary and therefore may come across
as boring to them. The opening of the film 'Misery' is quite
different though as it doesnt go straight into the scaryness of
it, it rather seems quite realistic of a normal life. The music is
also quite up beat and fun, unlike ours we tried to make it
come across as creepy right from the beginning. However
they have used red such as the close up of the red matchstick
to show there is danger to come, just like we have used red
to show the same thing such as our main character is wearing
a red dress and lipstick which suggests that she is the danger.
2. Another film that could be seen as similar to ours is the film 'Fatal
attraction' this is because like ours a woman is upset and
annoyed and obsessed over a man. Although in our film the
woman doesn’t go after the man she loved which broke her
heart she instead goes after men which remind her of him,
and gets satisfaction our of seducing and then killing them
with her imagining it is the man that broke her heart.
However they both still show obsession and danger towards
men. This films main audience is probably for both men and
women between the ages of 30 and 55. This is because the
main storyline is about people who have families and are in
their 30's therefore it would appeal to them. However ours
has a much younger feel to it as the woman has no children
or anything and is still quite young therefore appealing more
to the younger ages rather than the older ones. The film One Hour Photo is a film where there is some sort
of stalking in it with the use of photos. This is similar to
ours as right at the beginning we have a red room and can
see our main character putting up a picture of her next
victim. The film one hour photo has a room like this as well
as he works as a photo developer. This film is a 15 just like
ours as it is quite scary but not really scary. This film is
where the man becomes obsesses with a suburban family,
ours also has the theme of obsession.
3. 5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I think we appealed to our target audience by having younger
people act in it, therefore appealing to a younger audience.
The way in which we have done our film I think will attract
both men and women as it would attract to men due to the
sexy and seductive antagonist but would probably mainly
attract women as the woman character is also very strong
and dominant against the man which I think the women
would like as there are not many films where the woman
plays the authorative role.
We decided not to show the violence of when the women stabs
the man as we thought that may be too violent for younger
audiences. However, we still have the sounds of it which still
reinforces the danger. The bit in which the woman goes
round and touches the man with the knife gives a sense of
tension as the audience don’t know when she is going to just
strike him with it. The close up of when the woman moves
into the man with the knife could be quite scary for younger
audiences. When she raises the knife it is meant to bring a
sense of fear just like they did in the Alfred Hitchcock film
‘Psycho’ Also as this bit is from the victims point of view it
would put the audience in his place and may bring a feeling
of terror for the man and make them feel even more scared
for him as they know no one can save him due to the isolated
place.
4. Audience Feedback
• ‘I like the use of light used at the beginning in the red room, its really different and it comes across really well, especially with creepy music
over the top.’
• ‘I like the sound that you used throughout the opening of your film, each bit fitted what was going on in each scene’
• ‘good production logo at the beginning, I like the writing and how it drips with blood with the knife underneath. It really sets the scene.’
• ‘it was really good but at times the lighting was quite dark, it would have been better if it was a bit lighter.’
• ‘The transitions and the music was really good but in think it needed to be more aggressive to be a horror film I think.’
• ‘It was very tense and dramatic and it makes me want to see the rest of the film to see what she is going to do.’
• ‘The music worked incredibly well throughout the whole piece and set an eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere that chilled me. It
correlated with the video images perfectly and set every scene perfectly, creating the tension where necessary and building up suspense
when its quiet. I felt the dark transitions or breaks, such as where the stabbing took commence, was really effective and created mystery.’
• ‘The editing was okay, i felt it was jumpy at times and didn't flow.’
• ‘Sound effects a bit too obvious and didn't sound real enough and could come across as a bit cheesy.’
I found the feedback really helpful and agree with all the points that people made about how it could have been better. I think it would have been
really helpful doing surveys whilst we were making the film so that we could have got the audience views on it and considered them before
we had finished making it. I think it would have helped us to do a better job.
5. 6. What have you learnt about technologies form the process of constructing the product?
From the process of making our film I have learnt about and
used many different forms of technology. Throughout this
process I have learnt how to use the camera effectively to
know what angles and shots would look the best to get what
you want across to the audience, I have managed to learn
how to do a consistent zoom without making it jump at all
and coming out smoothly and at the right pace. I have also
learnt editing skills in Premiere Pro and how the inter cutting
of shots can go together smoothly. However we found it
quite tricky when filming the red room because the camera
kept going fuzzy due to the light in there, therefore it was
quite hard trying to film without it not going fuzzy at all.
In the filming process there were a few problems that we
faced. When we came to editing we found out that some of We also found problems with the light. This is because the
the scenes we took were quite short which meant that some different times that we filmed, the light kept changing
of the intercutting of shots didn’t fit smoothly together and therefore not making it look like it was being continued. The
were quite jumpy. However from moving them round a bit reason it was like this was because we only had lamps to use,
we found that some of it looked quite good as it gave it quite therefore not professional lighting which we could make
a fast pace with the shorter scenes, so for some it worked exactly the same each time, we tried our best to put it in the
well, others we had to go and film it for a longer amount of same place and angle each time that we filmed. However,
time. I think if I were to do this again I would make sure to when we looked back at the footage we found there were

to make it fit together when editing. look to good. The bits that were too dark we filmed again. To
make it the best that we could, it would have been a good
idea to try and get all of the same scene filmed at the same
time so that the light would stay the same throughout,
however we never managed to do this as there was too
much to film in too little space of time so we had to do it at
different times.
Another problem was that we weren't sure on how to use the
camera in a good way to show her killing him but obviously not
actually touching him with the knife. First of all we tried filming the
shadow of her stabbing him, however it was really hard in trying to
get that shot. In the end we thought we could do something seen in
Alfred Hitchcock's ‘Psycho’ where we see the killer bring the knife
up and then down again into the victim but the audience doesn't
6. In the editing process, there were particular effects that came
across as very useful for creating our overall film. We found
the cross dissolve very helpful in trying to get from one
location to another without wasting any time. This seemed to
be a good effect as it just went from the picture in the red
room straight through into the actual man sitting tied up in
the chair.
Garageband was quite useful in helping us find music for our
film. There were many sounds on garageband that we tried
out to try and make a soundtrack, however it was quite hard
to make a soundtrack that sounded good and tuneful at the
same time, therefore it was easier to look at music that
already existed but that was not copyrighted. I think the
music we chose works really well in our film and gets across
the feeling we want the audience to feel which is a sense of
creepiness and suspense. Although, from garage band we did
get our diegetic sound of the tuning of the radio which was
really helpful and it was also good that we could decide on
where we wanted it loud and then quiet.
7. 7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the
full product?
In the progression from the beginning to the end of finishing I feel much more confident with the equipment now as
my full product I have got a better understanding of how the throughout making our film I had a big chance at using the
camera, editing, Mise en scene and sound all work together camera. This has helped me to be able to try out different

thought about what we wanted to do and drew out the
different shots that we wanted to see in our film one by one.
Carefully doing the storyboard of each shot it then made it
clear in our minds exactly what we wanted it to look like
which meant we knew exactly what we were going to film
before we even started filming. This in the end made our
filming quicker.
