I WONDER WHAT
YOU ARE?
too brilliant to ignore, by far
Photo Linda (Oregon)
The Venus and Jupiter Parade
• Venus and Jupiter very eye-catching when
both are “near” the Moon (20th June)
• Many photos, many locations, many thanks!
this trio looks the same from each, but
latitude causes different orientations.
• Jupiter harder to see (and photograph); it is
about 10X further than Venus. In most slides,
it was visible, on the 22 inch LG monitor while
editing.
• The Venus-Jupiter line is part of “The Ecliptic”
Dubai
The dots are Venus (lower) and Jupiter.
Here, nothing else is bright enough to
push its light through the haze

Internet for Longitude
• for LONGITUDE differences
– (not so easy but not impossible!)
– The Moon speed
• Moon is fast (1km per sec)
which means 13° in 24 hours
– Note hours between
photos
– Get a simple telescope
• Measure angle change
between the two locations

The SUN, 1-2 hours
after sunset
Jupiter
(near East )
Moon
.
Venus
The line-up at left is an edge-on view of
the circles below; THE SUN is below
the EARTH horizon; move away from
Horizon to VENUS then JUPITER
MARCH 20 to June 20
Orbiting – Angle of sweep is 90° for Earth
About 150° for Venus (the closest planet to Sun is fastest)
About 10° for Jupiter; (distance shown to sun is about 1/5 actual)
• From Earth’s June position, Venus and Jupiter
are now in line.
• Within 2 months, Venus and Jupiter (from
Earth) will be in line with the sun
– Venus in front of sun
– Jupiter behind
JUNE 20 (three months later)
Twinkle, way up there, afar
Even if you’re not a star. . .
Stars don’t move, so maybe, can it
Be that you’re a tiny planet?
