Sprocket - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Separate the track in the rear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".

1. Slide track assembly (1) away from sprocket (2). Remove bolts (3) and sprocket (2).

1. Install sprocket (2) and bolts (3). Slide track assembly (1) over sprocket (2).
End By:
a. Connect the track in the rear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Connect".

Final Drive and Travel Motor - Remove

Removal Procedure
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure.
Hot oils can cause burns.
To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work
tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits,
and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or
components are disconnected or removed.
Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap
is cool enough to touch.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Position the machine onto suitable cribbing below the first roller, as shown. Ensure that the
master pin is above the center line of the sprocket.
2. Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".
3. Rotate the final drive until drain plug (1) is at the bottom. Drain the oil into a suitable
container for storage or disposal.
4. Release the hydraulic system pressure.

5. Remove bolts (2) and cover (3) from the rear of the undercarriage frame.
6. Disconnect hose assemblies (4).
7. Attach a suitable lifting device to final drive and travel motor (6). Remove bolts (5).
Remove final drive and travel motor (6). The combined weight of final drive and the travel
motor (6) is approximately 118 kg (260 lb).

Start By:
A. Remove the final drive and the travel motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final
Drive and Travel Motor - Remove".

1. Remove plug (2) , ring (1) , and cover (3) .
2. Remove bolts (4) and retainer (5) .
3. Remove gears (6) , gear (8) , and bearings (7) .

4. Remove washer (10) and carrier (9) .
5. Remove bolts (11) and retainers (12) .

6. Remove gears (13) , gear (15) , and bearings (14) .
7. Remove washers (16) , coupling (17) , washer (18) , and setscrews (19) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.

8. Remove plug (20) and the O-ring seal.
9. Remove spring (21) .
10. Remove poppet (22) .
11. Repeat Step 8 through Step 10 for the opposite side.

12. Remove bolts (24) and head (23) .
13. Remove port plate (25) and bearing (26) .

14. Remove O-ring seals (28) , O-ring seal (27) , and springs (29) .
15. Install Tooling (A) .
16. Apply approximately 345 kPa (50 psi) of shop air pressure in order to remove piston (30) .

17. Remove O-ring seals (31) .
18. Remove barrel (32) , discs (33) , and plates (34) .
19. Remove pins (35) .

20. Use a suitable press and Tooling (B) in order to remove retaining ring (36) .
21. Remove washers (37) and spring (38) .

22. Remove pistons (39) , bearing (41) , and retainer (40) .
23. Remove swashplate (42) .

24. Remove piston (43) and rockers (44) .
25. Remove shaft assembly (45) .
26. Remove spring (45) and seal (47) .
27. Use Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing (48A) from shaft (45) .

29. Remove ring gear assembly (49) from motor housing (50) .
30. Remove Duo-Cone Seal Gp (51) and bearing (52) .
