1. Why Use Syllable PROMPTs
• Syllable PROMPTs reduce the “motor load” for your client, allowing the
clinician to do some of the work
• The clinician maintains jaw stability at 1 (for the above vowels) and
shapes the vowel, so that the client only needs to close lips for ‘b’
• Thus, the client is able to move from a less efficient ‘attractor state’
(too many degrees of freedom in jaw) through a ‘phase shift’
(supported change) to a more functional ‘attractor state’ (ability to
round and keep jaw stable at appropriate jaw height)
