Useful Cooking Tips For The Ambitious Cook
Cooking is a skill that can take a while to develop. Find tips below that give you a few steps to take
in mastering the art of cooking well.
All of the prep work can be done ahead of time. It is important to have all the prep work done before
you start cooking. Setting a time limit can add stress to your cooking experience. Try and prepare
your ingredients ahead of time to avoid unnecessary stress.
Partially frozen meat is easier to cut into thin strips. This is ideal for Asian meals like Chinese or
Thai dishes. When the meat is partially frozen, cutting becomes cleaner as the meat fibers are less
likely to tear or stretch. To ensure that the meat strips cook evenly, make sure they thaw out before
use.
Use sharp knives to prepare your favorite meals. Knives that have been allowed to dull are
dangerous and difficult to use. A cut is more likely when you push down hard on a dull knife that
when you cut easily with a sharp one.
If you do any lengthy cooking process like boiling, many of the nutrients will be cooked out. Use
quick cooking methods instead to maintain their healthy quality. Examples of these methods are
steaming, sauteing, or the best one is to eat them raw.
If you want crispier and crunchier French fries, then soak the potatoes in a bowl of cold water for a
period of at least half an hour before use. Cold water will allow the sliced potato to retain its internal
fibers, meaning that they are less likely to completely break down when cooked at a high heat.
Burgers will often stick to a grill. Once they are stuck it can be very difficult to get them off of the
grill and have them still maintain their shape. To prevent this in the future, brush a bit of vegetable
oil onto the grates before adding the food.
If you use skewers for any of your dishes, be sure to soak skewers made of wood in water for a
minimum of a half hour before using them. This way, you don't burn them when you are cooking
with them. Use two parallel skewers as opposed to a single skewer to keep food intact.
Sauteing vegetables in a small amount of chicken broth is a healthy and delicious way to cook. Not
only will the flavor be enhanced, but they will be lower in fat without the need for oils and butter.
This is a wonderful way to cook, and enjoy, your vegetables.
When cooking pumpkins, stand them upright and cut them halfway down the middle. Put each half
on a separate baking sheet, upside down. Preheat the oven to 350 F, spray a little bit of water over
the surface of the baking sheet, and bake the pumpkin for an hour.
Rather than using water or milk in a specific recipe, try a different liquid to add a new flavor. Broth
is a great substitute for water, and milk adds delicious flavor and extra nutrition to soups and stews.
If a recipe calls for milk, try using buttermilk, yogurt or sour cream. A good method for increasing
your nutritional intake is by increasing the amount of liquids you drink throughout the day.
Now you can see how easy it is to increase your cooking skill, just by trying some of the tips
mentioned here. Now that you have an arsenal of new cooking tips, there's nothing left to do except
to try them out in the kitchen. You will most certainly cook some fantastic dishes.
