Valleyview Greenia January 2019 newsletter-1
1. January
2019
We have celebrated Christ’s Birth and have the promise of a New Year! We would like to
update the Valley View Family on our progress in three years and where we are going in the future.
In the three plus years since Mike Steinkruger purchased Valley View, we have weathered
many storms, but have also created many success stories. The health center is a few projects shy of a
much-needed facelift. In addition, our life-blood, our employees, continue to be foremost in our
minds as we care for your loved ones. Our wages are competitive, and our benefits are improving.
Next up is a retirement program in 2019.
After three years of day-to-day operations oversight, Mike turned the reins over to a personal
friend and colleague, Deb Haugen. In 2017, the most sweeping regulations for long term care
facilities since 1989 were implemented. Deb came to Greene to address the regulatory changes and
manage the facility.
Nursing management has experienced significant changes in 2018…changes we feel are
allowing us to meet the needs of our residents. They have implemented computerized nursing
documentation for charting cares and administration of medications. Nursing Assistants document
daily cares on the program using a wall-mounted kiosk.
We realize that open communication is a key to continued success. The New Year gives us the
opportunity to put our changes into practice and continue to provide excellent resident care. In
closing, our room rates remain lower than other area facilities and we continue to be good stewards
of our resources. Thank you for your continued support.

Santa and Mrs. Elf had a lot of fun passing out the presents that were
donated by volunteers, staff and family to the residents at their Christmas
Party and Christmas cards to the staff at their Party! Thank you to all who
sent goodies to the staff this holiday season. We really appreciate being
remembered by residents and their families. We will all need to start our
New Year diets soon!

In anticipation of our annual State Survey within the next couple of months, we are cleaning out
resident rooms. Any snacks should be stored in an air-tight container or taken to the kitchen to serve
as snacks. All resident clothing should be marked and placed on the resident inventory sheet. Any
soaps, shampoos or lotions should be marked and stored in the shower room. Anything that is
medicated (even over the counter) cough drops, eye drops, shampoo, creams, vapor rubs etc. must
have a doctor’s order. To protect all the residents, do not bring anything with a sharp edge in.
Please help us by bringing any items to be marked or checked to the charge nurse. The Fire Marshal
will survey us also. All hair sprays etc. should be non-aerosol. We are not allowed to have power
strips or extension cords, so these will be removed, and a call placed for you to pick them up. All
electric appliances must have cords that are not frayed or torn.
