2. Re-RELEASED and redubbed The original Nausicaa is the highest grossing film in Japan, $ 740 MILLION YEN (beat out Titanic) The film was rereleased "Warriors of the Wind" from New World Pictures Disney redubbed the film in 2003 with Alison Lohman, Patrick Stewart, and Uma Thurman.

3. Video games NaushikaKiki Ippatsu (Nausicaä's Close Call) released in 1984 Kaze no Tani no Naushika (Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind) Hayao Miyazaki was not fond of the video games. He felt they encouraged the opposite message he was trying to send with the original film- that of peace and harmony.

4. PRINCESS NAUSICAA Nausicaa, or “The Princess Who Loved Insects” is based off of a 12th century Japanese folk tale. The movie set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans struggle to live amongst poisonous fungus forests, mutant insects, and herds of giant blue-eyed slugs called Ohmu. The heroine, Nausicaa, is a chieftain’s daughter, lives in a small nation in a protected valley, and shares an empathic bond with the insects of her world; she firmly believes that humans and insects can peacefully coexist, despite the ever-present threat of the growing forests. She’s the archetype of the Miyazaki heroine: strong-willed, confident, and full of spirit.

5. The jungle The jungle became source of the film’s misery. Due to the spores released in the jungle, Nausicaa and her people must wear masks to enter the jungle. Though after continuous exposure, the spores eventually infect their bodies and kills them.

6. Ohms The ohms are the insects that are most powerful in the toxic jungle. The color in their eyes indicate their feelings of calmness or rage.

7. Destiny One cultural aspect of this film is destiny. It is described through Oh-baba, the elderly (blind) woman who often gives the people of the valley history and guidance. The tapestry is modeled after the Bayeux Tapestry. Miyazaki saw it in a book of world history. The tapestry in the film tells the story of 1000 years of darkness before “a person clad in blue standing in a golden field who will find the bond between humanity and the earth, and lead the people to a pure land”

8. finale There was some controversy over Nausicaa’s resurrection. The scene was perceived to be religious, but was not. Nausicaa simply awakens with a blue dress, that was made that way after the baby ohm bled on her. Miyazaki had a strong aversion to organized religions, and was really hard on himself for making the ending of the film semi “religious.” (Miyazaki is not religious himself)
