3. Many of you see these same views I am going to show you but I think we are so use to it we don’t realize how big the problem really is. The pictures were done with permission and blessings from all those in the pictures. They are hoping some action will come out of it and hopefully a safer place to live. These pictures are from the Peridotdistrict on the San Carlos Apache Reservation – there are 3 other districts who have the same housing issues for elders.
4. Elder housing in Peridot district - 2010 As you may not notice – an elder will give up their bed, their food and their money for you - family
57. OPEN your eyes - do a tour of your district and Rez We just had some of the coldest days & nights ever, 2 of the elders had fire outside, one was sitting in the rain by the fire outside because they had no stove inside.
58. Respect & Honor -Sometimes the only companion they have is an animal. -There are families who bring their animals indoor because of the cold weather – what is so wrong with us that we ignore their dilemma and leave the elders outside to fend for themselves. -We should at least have an emergency shelter for the elders because the very hot & cold weather seems to come more often now.
59. Dedicated in memory of Martin Wardwho died 1/3/2011 from exposure to the cold
60. Like a beautiful sunset completing the day: Our Elders The respect that we give them has so much to say Where would we be? If we had none, The Apaches would be long gone or completely done Our Elders should be honored and cherished Or the Apache Nation will completely perish
