Research into ourtarget audience began with a questionnaire in
which we gave a small group of students a questionnaire that
asked them about their favourite genre, how often they go to
the cinema and which platforms they generally view films on.
As horror did come up as the favourite genre, and the
participants were largely between 16-18 years old, we decided
to target this age group with this genre. And here are the ways
we did this:
3.
Identifying with theirage group: all actors seen within the
sequence are between 16 and 17
With horror as a favourite genre, it has to be relatively
scary/eerie, or the audience will feel as if it has
underperformed.
4.
Our sequence ofa thriller/horror could be considered quite a realistic one
has there are no overly-elaborate special effects in place (only fake blood
and make-up for the dead bodies) and the storyline is both believable and
devoid of any fantasy that couldn’t be placed in an everyday diegesis.
This, in conjunction with the actors being the same age as the target
audience, leads to our film being a little more engaging than others as the
audience find the whole scenario and diegesis more relatable. A realistic
setting, with same-age actors and a storyline that is not completely
unbelievable can help place the target audience into the position of the
actors for a genuinely scary film.
