2. You may need to plait your pony for the
ring, a presentation. To prepare your mane
to be plaited, it’s most important that you
pull it to the length that suits you. Everyone
has a little bit of a different idea. A bit of a
tip is don’t shampoo your mane on the day
because the mane becomes too flyaway.
3. I damp the mane and then I spray it with a
hair spray to give it a little bit of stickiness
and plait it down reasonably firmly from the
base of the neck. Then, I stitch mine to the
bottom. You have a wax thread and you
stitch around so the hair’s going to hold
together. You twirl the hair at the end of
your fingers so the hair turns around and
4.
5. bend it back.
The damper hair the better it will bend,
because hair moulds better being damp. So
if your hair is too dry, it will just fly away
everywhere. I stitch the top down and I put
my needle at the base of the neck and go
up through the V and pull the cotton quite
6. tight. The base of the plait goes up
underneath.
Then you tack back to the center of the plait
and then you roll it under with your thumb.
The piece of thread there literally goes
down underneath to hold the plait in place.
When you pull it up, you literally pull the
7. base of your plait up. You tack back and
pull through two or three times and that
holds it in.
It’s most important that you divide your
mane up evenly and also have your plaits in
firmly and you pull the cotton tight. You
don’t want to see cotton but also you don’t
8. want to see a loose plait. Then you just snip
the plait off close to the base and that’s it.
It’s a good idea to get a little bit of spray
and spray your plaits on the wrong side.
Make sure it doesn’t go on their actual hair
because it will stick the hair down as well.
We put a skinny hood over the top. You’ll
9. You’ll find that makes it go down very nicely
and the plaits will stay in. I do recommend
spraying over the top of it because it
finishes them off a bit better. They stay in
much better which is the aim of the game.
