Hello and thank you for inviting me today. My name is [NAME] and I am [POSITION] at [COMPANY]. But today, I am here as a volunteer ambassador of TEDxSanAntonio. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At our TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
In this brief video, TED curator, Chris Anderson gives a complete overview of the TEDx experience. [PLAY VIDEO] IT WILL OPEN IN A SEPARATE WINDOW – I’ve made it a link, not an embed.
The theme for TEDxSanAntonio 2012 was “ BE BOLD ” . This year, we ’ ll have another broad theme to open up the experience for people from many different professional, educational and cultural backgrounds to get energized, motivated and inspired to BE BOLD and take action on their passion for spreading new ideas. This event will include world-class speakers giving inspiring 18-minute talks that will change minds for around 350 diverse attendees.
So now here ’ s the real reason I ’ m here today. To ask you to join our TEDxSanAntonio community and participate in this year ’ s event. Our invitation is 4-fold : we invite you to SPEAK, ATTEND, SPONSOR and VOLUNTEER.
We are currently accepting applications to speak at TEDxSanAntonio 2013. You can apply online using the short URL shown here. TEDxSanAntonio presenters have come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds. There ’ s only one requirement to present a talk at the event: You have to be passionate about an idea worth spreading. Many speakers have taken that idea and turned it into action. Some of these actionable ideas challenge established ways of thinking while others put feet to what many people believe but don ’ t know how to implement. Still, other talks are based on an idea that doesn ’ t include action in itself but, inspires others to passionately pursue their own ideas. Most TEDxSanAntonio speakers live and breathe their idea every day. In some cases, it has been a vocation that was ahead of its time and is just now becoming real for others. In other cases, it was a result of life changing experiences that inspired them to share their idea with others. In every case, it was something they all felt very passionate about, so passionate they wanted to share it with the world. The deadline to apply to speak is June 5, 2013. There’s a Speaker eBook posted to help you prepare an application. If you know someone you tnink would be great to speak, please share this link and info with them and encourage them to apply.
We have now opened up the request to attend TEDxSanAntonio 2013. You may request your invite online using the short URL shown here. The TEDx San Antonio Invitation Request is not a typical conference registration. We ’ re looking for people who are strong contributors to the creative, innovative community and/or the ideas discussed at TEDx and projects that come out of the conference. The cost for this year ’ s event has not yet been determined, but in previous years it has been about $50. You will not be asked to pay until your application to attend has been accepted and made aware of this year ’ s fee. If the $50 is a significant hurdle for you – if you cannot come unless you are given a scholarship to attend, please check the box on the application. It’s unusual for an event to ask you to apply – we know. This is the way TED does it, and we accept most applicants if we have room. Much of the magic of the event is having people who LOVE sharing ideas and REALLY want to be there. If you don’t want to apply or spend $50, we do LIVESTREAM THE EVENT as it occurs and we do videotape the speakers and make their talks available online, free. The deadline to request an invitation to attend is August 12, 2013.
We are also looking for partner sponsors to help put San Antonio on the global stage. You may want to align with TEDxSanAntonio because your company wants to foster thought leadership in San Antonio. Or maybe you wish to attract and mix with other thought leaders both here and in the worldwide TED community. As a potential sponsor, you believe in bringing together business leaders and individuals who want to promote remarkable thinking and ideas. You want to leverage ideas, technologies, design and education to help create a better future. To be part of the event, learn more about sponsoring and endorsing TEDxSanAntonio at the URL shown here. Be part of the conversation. We want to hear your voice!
Finally, we will need about 40-60 volunteers to make TEDxSanAntonio 2013 happen. We're looking for dedicated individuals to help make TEDxSanAntonio 2013 even better than last year. We need day-of-the-event crew, as well as folks to help us with sponsorships and partnerships, event planning, set design, volunteer management and logistics, communications strategy, pr and design, audience experience and emails, and speaker recruitment, selection and wrangling. We need people with great organizational skills, attention to detail, and a variety of marketing, technical, and fundraising experience. To be part of the event as a volunteer, sign up at the URL shown here.
