15. Evolutions in orthodontic bonding
• In the mid 1960s-
Dr George Newman from Newjersey,USA and
Prof;Fujio Miura fromTMDU ,Japan pioneered the
bonding of orthodontic bracket to the enamel.

18. Application of Nanotechnology in
orthodontics
• application of nanotechnology in orthodontics, including
nanodesigned orthodontic bonding materials,
• possible nanovectors for gene delivery for mandibular
growth stimulation, and nano-LIPUS devices.
• Also, nanomechanical sensors can be fabricated and
incorporated into the base of orthodontic brackets and
tubes in order to provide real-time feedback about the
applied orthodontic forces. This real-time feedback allows
the orthodontist to adjust the applied force to be within a
biological range to efficiently move teeth with minimal side
effects.

22. Tooth
movement
•
• the choice of appliance does not seem to influence
tooth movement. Furthermore, the skill of the
operator is likely to affect the outcomes.

39. Intra-oral scanning
• Triangulation: Optical triangulation measures
distances to objects without physically touching them.
• Active Wavefront Sampling: This system utilizes a
3D-in-motion technique. It captures the 3D data in a
video sequence and models the data in real time.
• Parallel Confocal Imaging: Using a system of “point
and stitch” reconstruction, laser light bounced off the
target surface is reflected back to the sensor.
• Accordion Fringe Interferometry: This system utilizes
two beams of laser light that create three projected
patterns — called fringe patterns — that strike the
target surface and take on new fringe patterns.

42. Skeletal anchorage devices
To overcome the treatment difficulty,
To modify the treatment mechanics
To reinforce the anchorage planning
To correct the unintentional anchorage loss
To reduce the treatment time
To adjunct the 3D control of movement
