Edu624 Final Project: eLearning for Diverse Learners
Class 6706 course project overview
1. Course Project Overview: Literate Environment Analysis Presentation
Important Note: A written summary of your Course Project including a reflection on your
presentation is a preselected assignment for the Demonstration of Content Knowledge Major
Assessment and will be uploaded to your ePortfolio. See the Week 7 Application for more
information. The assignment is informed by International Reading Association (IRA) Standard 4:
Literate Environment.
As a Course Project culminating in Week 7, you will analyze the research-based practices you will have
planned and/or implemented in each of your Application Assignments in terms of how they helped you to
create a literate environment for a particular group of students. You will also cite research that supports
each practice. You will then create a presentation using a Web 2.0 presentation tool and share your
presentation with 1) one or more colleagues from your school and 2) a family member of a student from
your school.
Take a moment this week to explore the following websites (and any others you may wish to review) and
consider possibilities for your own presentation:
• Prezi http://prezi.com
• Voicethread http://voicethread.com/#home
• Webspiration http://www.mywebspiration.com/
• Tagxedo http://www.tagxedo.com
• WikiMindMap http://www.wikimindmap.com
• Free Tech 4 Teachers http://www.freetech4teachers.com
Note: The web-based tools listed above are provided to you as a courtesy and as a suggestion only. You are
welcome to use any Web 2.0 tool you choose, as long as your colleagues and the Instructor are able to
access the site.

Literate Environment Analysis Presentation Outline
You will submit a written summary of your Literate Environment Analysis Presentation in Week 7 of this
course. You should begin making arrangements this week with a colleague from your school and a family
member of a student. They will need to be available to view your presentation and provide feedback in
Week 7. While the course project is not due until Week 7, you should plan to work on your presentation as
you progress through the course. A suggested timeline is provided below to help keep you on track:
Week 1
• Identify a colleague at your school and a family member of a student who will be able to view and
provide feedback on your presentation during Week 7.
2. • Begin reviewing Web 2.0 presentation tools.
Week 2
• Select a Web 2.0 presentation tool that you will use for your Literate Environment Analysis
presentation. Ensure that the colleague and family member who will view your presentation have
access to the site or program and will be able to view your presentation in Week 7.
• Begin work on “I. Getting to Know Literacy Learners, P–3” portion of the outline using the
presentation tool.
Week 3
• Begin work on “II. Selecting Texts” portion of the outline using the presentation tool.
Week 5
• Begin work on “III. Literacy Lesson: Interactive Perspective” portion of the outline using the
presentation tool.
Week 6
• Complete your Literate Environment Analysis presentation including “IV. Literacy Lesson:
Critical and Response Perspectives.”
• Communicate with the colleague at your school and the family member of a student to ensure that
they will be able to view the presentation and provide their feedback by next week.
Week 7
• Receive feedback from the colleague at your school and the family member of a student.
(Feedback questions are provided in the Literacy Environment Analysis Presentation Outline
above.)
• Submit a Word document in essay format that addresses each item (I–V) on the Literacy
Environment Analysis Outline.
