3. Apache NiFi is “an easy to use, powerful, and
reliable system to process and distribute
data.” In simpler terms, NiFi is a system for
moving, filtering, and enhancing data with
point source security and a nice UI wrapper.

4. NiFi has a very intuitive UI that allows for
data flows to be built, updated, or removed
quickly with minimal manual intervention
required.
Unlike bulky and expensive all in one ETL tools, such as
Informatica or DataStage, NiFi does not do all things for all
people. Instead, what it excels at is data extraction (the ‘E’),
filtering, and enrichment while also providing chain of
custody security for your data. (NiFi was an NSA project, so
security is robust and production tested).

5. Flows are made up of a series
of processors each with a specific task.
These flows can be saved as templates and templates can be
combined into more complex flows and quickly replicated
across multiple servers again and again with minimal effort
(try doing that easily in Informatica).

your data center, thanks to NiFi’s small
footprint and data prioritization abilities,
NiFi can run on small portable single board
computers (think Raspberry Pi).
Poor connections are death for normal tools, however
NiFi can prioritize and queue your data to ensure you

Do you like saving money? Apache NiFi is
free to license, and support packages are
available from Hortonworks as part of
their Hortonworks Data Flow platform.
NiFi requires little development to deploy, modular (due to
processors) and easy to maintain. In some cases, Apache
NiFi can replace other more expensive ETL tools. Using NiFi
as the ‘E’ tool (and possibly ‘T’ and ‘L’ in non-transformation
cases) has the potential to deliver huge cost savings.

NiFi also lets you watch what is happening to
your data (data-in-motion as Hortonworks has
coined it) as it moves from one data source to
another.
Unlike traditional static data processing
methods, this allows for real-time or near real-
time data availability of information, access to
real-time analytics, etc. No more waiting for
traditional, lumbering data management
processes to run. You can now view data-
matched occurrences as they are happening.

10. Is Apache NiFi easy to implement?
With NiFi, there really isn’t a complicated
implementation solution for your developers and
IT team.
The code base is available and written in Java
and Scala. There are built in classes to help with
XML, JSON, Avro, or other formatted data. The
code is (mostly) clean, simple (in an elegant sort
of way), and easy to follow. There is also already
a dedicated and very responsive community
around the product to help if you need to do
something new or have an issue or a question.
