- 5. Naturalization as aBritish Citizen Naturalisation as a British Citizen, becoming a British citizen is known as British naturalisation. A citizen or a national of another country can apply for a visa for entry in the UK in several ways. If the candidate was issued a British passport on or after 1st January 1983, they are considered to be a British citizen. You can apply for UK citizenship by naturalisation after you have lived as a resident in the UK for 5 years.
