- King Zedekiah of Judah rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, who had made Zedekiah swear allegiance. Nebuchadnezzar's army besieged Jerusalem. - Jeremiah warned Zedekiah to surrender to Nebuchadnezzar to save the city and his life, but Zedekiah was afraid of being mocked by Jews who had already surrendered. - Eventually the city fell and Zedekiah's sons were killed before his eyes. Zedekiah was taken in chains to Riblah, where Nebuchadnezzar passed judgment on him.
