Yachts and Superyachts
I really have no idea where to start on this subject,
having spent such a long time working withYachts
the amount of things I have been asked to do is huge
but for the sake of keeping this video short I will put
another one together at a later date
Stern gate extensions
This motor yacht needed to be coded for charter use, the
stern gates were too low and had to be changed, rather than
go to the expense of fabricating new gates I designed
extensions that matched the existing transom handrails
Tender supports (A “can you just” phone call)
The problem being the new one was now
too big for the boat deck.
Only solution was to put it on the swim
platform, one small issue the jet ski/dive
bottles were stored in the hold below it.
The owner of this yacht went to the Genoa boat show
and had decided on a new tender.
I designed supports that could pivot and
lay along the back of the transom
allowing the deck hatch to open. The
weight was taken up by the hatch frame.
(hearing “can you just” is like hearing “Ohh I
thought” from one of your engineers  )
Pushpit
Before and after photographs of a design made for this yacht
The owner had children and the height of the seats in the
cockpit made it a hazard when the boat was heeled over.
The new Pushpit had to clear the steering gear and cleats
Aluminium Bimini
This was a bit of a monster
Building it was one thing,
getting it to the boatyard was
another, at 4.5 x 7.5 metres
finding a road route was tricky,
securing it to the low loader
edge on wasn’t much fun either
With a “sail” area
of nearly 34 square
metres when it
was covered, the
supports had to be
really strong
Anchor knock plates
Designed to protect the paint from anchor damage, it’s hard
to get these simple things to look right, the bow is fared and
filled by hand, it seldom has the same shape on both sides of
the stem plate, even a small difference can make the knock
plate sit unevenly causing them look crooked, consequently
the plates are odd sided to look balanced
Fuel bypass pipework
This pipework was designed for one of the biggest
sailing yachts in the world, it’s function was to stop the
main generator from sucking air into the fuel system
when it was heeled over.
Cleats and fairleads
Mooring lines and anchor ropes can put a huge load on the
cleats if the weather is bad, they really need to be strong
enough for the job, the ones we replaced here were fit for
purpose Midship cleat made
from 40 mm Ǿ bar
Fairlead made from
60 Ǿ mm bar
Ships movingYachts
I worked with
Dock Express for a
while helping to
move some pretty
big boats around
the world.
We fabricated
spreaders to lift
this Sunseeker
Odds and ends
It’s upside down but
this Sat dome bracket
was designed to fit
onto a fixed Bimini
frame, it was the only
available space
Designed for a
chart table on a
large sail boat, it
fitted between the
underside of the
table and the floor
allowing the swivel
chair to be easily
stowed when not
in use, it had a
position lock pin
that engaged
when it was sat on
Seat mount
