REASONS WHY IT’S TIME TO FILL THE TECH GAP FOR DESKLESS WORKERSJohnWalter76
Many companies have yet to equip their employees with a communication system tailored to deskless workers. To stay informed while on the job, deskless workers use consumer apps to solve their communication needs on their own.
Low code development threats to it peopleJohnWalter76
In low-code development platforms, programmers and developers can create application software by interacting with graphical user interfaces and configuring their settings using drag-and-drop actions.
Mobile Application Development Technology RoundupJoseph Labrecque
So many choices! With many schools opting for a BYOD approach to mobile learning, what is the best technology to build upon which can target all the major mobile devices? This session will present a solid rundown of a number of cross-platform mobile application development technologies to give you a leg up on expectations and application. Which technology is best??? Not the most simple question to answer but here is some information that can help!
Mischief Managed - Protecting your Serverless Functions (Memphis Web Workers)James Quick
The difficulty of building a website grows exponentially when taking into account security. Even a basic webpage quickly evolves with the need to interact with data sources, protect API credentials, etc.
In this talk, we will discuss what Serverless Functions are, why you might use them, and how to protect them. We'll talk through common security holes you need to address while touching on topics like authentication, authorization, and JSON Web Tokens (JWTs). After this talk, you should walk away confident in your mischief managing abilities.
Beginners guide to creating mobile appsJames Quick
Have you ever wanted to create a mobile application, but didn’t know where to start? Do you have tons of ideas but no way to implement them? Join this session to gain insight into the landscape of Mobile Application Development. We will walk through the major mobile platforms, relevant tooling, and the secrets behind successful and popular mobile apps.
Whether you are a longterm developer interested in pivoting to mobile or a non-technical entrepreneur looking to gain some technical insight , this session will give you the information you need to feel comfortable moving forward.
Mobile App Landscape for the Non-TechnicalJames Quick
As CEO/Founder of any startup, you may not be the lead developer on your product or app, but you do have to be able to have somewhat technical conversations with investors, interviewees, etc. All founders have wear many different hats and perform multiple different roles. This deck focuses on the landscape of Mobile as it is today focusing on three major platforms, Android, IOS, and Windows. We will take a look at building both native applications and cross-platform applications along with relevant tools and skills needed for both.
Project Oxford is a set of APIs that let's us, the developers, harness the power of machine learning without having the know how to implement from scratch. Project Oxford provides services focused on Vision, Emotion, Speech, and more and exposes it through REST API as well as client SDKs.
Windows 10 is the final destination for the convergence of “One Windows across all devices”, allowing you to build for every device running Windows 10 (phones, tablets, desktops, Xbox, HoloLens and more) with one project. With quite an array of devices and form factors, an Adaptive UI is necessary to provide the optimum capabilities and user experience for each. Microsoft has gone a long way to provide new tooling and controls to help you do just that, ensuring that your customers have a great experience regardless of device. We will explore new features and APIs for developers in the Universal Windows Platform and Visual Studio to help you build a UI that adapts to so many devices.
If you are one of the many people who are interested in Developing for the HoloLens, this deck will walk through all details publically available as of 1/20/2016. Learn about the path that Microsoft has taken to reach the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) which includes Xbox and HoloLens. Learn about the different techniques and tooling Microsoft has provided for Adaptive UI. Finally, learn about the HoloLens, it's hardware, input, how it works, and examples of companies already taking advantage of its power.
Cross platform mobile backend with mobile servicesJames Quick
Interested in developing cross platform mobile apps? Have you thought about how to connect your apps in the back end? Your app does not become very powerful without data powering it. Azure Mobile Services is quick and easy, but powerful, way to provide data storage (accessible through REST API calls), Push Notifications, and authentication with Microsoft Accounts. All of this functionality works on each of the top mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, and Windows! We will take a look at the Azure portal as well as the tooling built into Visual Studio giving you, the developer, a couple of different options for setting up your backend and quickly putting you on your way to making your first cross platform mobile app!
This session will be an early opportunity to get a look at the new Universal Windows Platform as well as Visual Studio Community 2015.
This discusses why there is such a great need for you and or your company to create a mobile app. A website is no longer enough to keep and build customer satisfaction in this mobile world. The use of mobile browsers is growing constantly, meaning that users are now need apps or mobile websites that support touch. This deck also takes a look at some of the different technologies there are for creating mobile apps

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
