What is Express Entry?
• Express Entry is a file management system used by the Canadian
Government for certain immigration applications
• This type of application is a two step process where you submit your
profile into the Express Entry System (if you meet the requirements of
one of the qualifying immigration programs) and are then assigned a
Comprehensive Ranking System score.
• You then wait for your score to be selected, at which time you will be
issued an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency

The first step for Express Entry is to find out if you
qualify for one of the four immigration programs
which uses Express Entry. They are:
• Federal Skilled Worker
• Federal Skilled Trades
• Canadian Experience Class
• Provincial Nominee

The Requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker
Program are:
• At least one year of continuous full-time (30 hours per week) or an equal amount
in part-time, paid work experience within the last ten year in an O, A or B
occupation
• A minimum score of a CLB 7 in all sections of an approved language test
• A minimum of 67 points based on the Federal Skilled Worker Points System
• A valid educational credential assessment which shows a High School Diploma or
higher
• The required settlement funds for your family size

The Requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades
Program are:
• Obtain the required CLB levels in all sections of an approved language test
• At least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work
experience) in a skilled trade within the five years before you make an application
• Meeting the job requirements for the skilled trade you are applying under
• Having an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year from a
Canadian Employer or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a
Canadian provincial or territorial authority (foreign trade qualifications do not count)
• The required settlement funds for your family size

The Requirements to be a Provincial Nominee
are:
• You have received a Nomination Certificate from a Canadian Province
or Territory
• You continue to meet all of the criteria for the Provincial Program you
were selected under
• Submit your application within the specified timeframes

The Requirements for the Canadian
Experience Class are:
• At least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time)
skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply
in an O, A or B level occupation
• You gained your experience in Canada on a valid Work Permit
• You meet the required language levels needed for your occupational
level in each language ability as shown by an approved language test

Language Tests
• Depending on the program you are applying under you will need to
write an approved language test and obtain the scores outlined by
the program in order to qualify
• The approved English language tests for Canada are the IELTS and the
CELPIP
• The approved French language test for Canada is the TEF

Educational Credential Assessments
• Depending on the program you are applying under you may need to
obtain an Educational Credential Assessment
• You will need to ensure that you obtain the correct Educational
Credential Assessment report based on your occupation and
educational background

What is a Comprehensive Ranking System
Score?
• Once you have been entered into the Express Entry Pool of Applicants you will be
assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System Score
• This score is out of 1200
• The first 600 points are based on your age, education, language abilities in French
and English, qualifying work experience, Canadian work experience, your
spouse’s education, your spouse’s language abilities in French or English and your
spouse’s Canadian work experience as applicable
• The remaining 600 points can be obtain by either obtaining a Provincial
Nomination or a qualifying job offer from a Canadian employer with a Valid
Labour Market Impact Assessment

How do I Get an Invitation to Apply?
• Once you are in the Express Entry Pool of Applicants, you need to wait
to be selected from the Pool based on your Comprehensive Ranking
System Score
• Depending on your score, and the scores being selected by the
Canadian Government you may sit in the Pool for a short period of
time or a long period of time before being issued with an Invitation to
Apply
