WHATIS A DROP IN CENTER?
Drop In Centers were created to provide a
place for consumers of the mental health
system to provide peer support and
socialization with others who have similar
illnesses.
Drop In Centers are nonjudgment in nature
and give consumers a place to feel safe,
secure, and “at home.”
Drop in Centers offer a feeling of belonging
and self-worth. Every Center is different in
its personality and membership makeup.
Some offer a more structured environment
than others. Quite often, as a Center grows, it
goes through changes in its structure and the
program it offers, according to the
membership’s needs. Drop In Centers are
consumer run and managed.
Drop in Centers give consumers the
opportunity to develop options, personal
growth, socialization skills, support and
sharing, and the freedom to participate
without stigma and discrimination. Drop In
Centers help keep mental health consumer
stabilized and in recovery.
