Ms. Orlic's 7th grade science class will focus on developing 21st century skills like learning and innovation. Students will learn science basics, work in groups, think creatively, and problem solve. They will make decisions, present using computers, and understand that failure is part of the scientific process. Students will apply these skills by working in groups on a science fair project using the scientific method.

1. Welcome to Back to School Night With Ms. Orlic's 7th Grade Science Class

2. What to Expect The Students will be expected to be able to do the following: Know the basics. Learn how to work as a group. Think creatively. Brainstorm and problem solve. Make Descions and act on them. Present using computers. Realize that failure is always an option. Use these skills for their science fair project. 3. Know the Basics The students will learn the information needed to understaind what is going on the the world around them. This includes: How things are related. Basics of the Carbon and noncarbon world. Basics of: Example of Relations: Physics Chemistry Earth Science Physical Science Life Science and Astronomy

4. Learn How to Work as a Group The students will learn the value of working as an: Individual Partners Small Group Then as a Class Grade. The students will then work with the internet to explore how professionals do it and work with information from them on projects throughtout the year. This will help them expand themselves and get practice for the future.

5. Think Creatively Creativity is esental for a scientest. This is how new ideas are developed leading to new technology. The term "Thinking outside the box" will be explore through varios basic experiments, like how to create a struture using nothing but paper and 5 pieces of tape.

6. Brainstorm And Problem Solve Starting with brainstorming, studnets will solve problems and explore multiple option. They will think through all the concequces to what see possible actions will lead to. They will need this for everything that they do in life.

7. Make Desitions and Act On Them The students will learn how to research an ides and make one and only one desiction. The student will work out varrious sinarious to see what will happen. The students must learn to support themselves and act throught their oppion. The students will learn how to think about what they are doing before, during, and after the actions is made.

8. Present Using Computers Everyone needs to fell comfortable using the computer. It is key to all jobs in today's socity. They also must be able to stand infrount of a group of people and say what they have to say without any negative felling. They will see how to use basic programs such as internet, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and varrious internet based programs to further their knowlegde and to exprese themselves.

9. Realize That Failure Is An Option Sometimes, when a sciencest is working on a project, it does not alway work out like you think it should. The project might have failed, but now you can eliminate a possiblity. THAT IS THE MAIN IDEA BEHIND SCIENCE!!! While doing project, the students will be alowed to fail without thinking it will hurt their grade. They will have learned something new. Failure is how we grow in life and the classroom is a safe place for this to happen with no dangerous concequences.

10. Use Skills To Make a Science Fair Project The students will get a chance to work as a group on a Problem Solving: The problem solving project will use the Scienctific Method to: Come up with an idea and problem Come up with a list of possible solutions. Act on one of them. Look at the results. Decide how the outcome came out. Explain of this is a good soltion or a bad one. Lastly, the group with do a presention for the class.

11. Review The students will learn how hard work will result in all the ideas discoused. Know the basics. Learn how to work as a group. Think creatively. Brainstorm and problem solve. Make Descions and act on them. Present using computers. Realize that failure is always an option. Use these skills for their science fair project.
