The narrator attends the funeral of her first love, whom she refers to as her "true love." She reflects on their relationship from when they were teenagers and how he taught her about what really matters in life, like finding beauty in simple things and experiencing freedom through open communication. Though she is now married with children, she still deeply grieves his loss and wishes she could have fought harder to be with him. As she leaves the cemetery, she resolves to teach her own children not to let true love pass them by.
