The document discusses noise levels of Excel Dryer's XLERATOR hand dryers. It states that XLERATOR dryers operate at 78-80 dB but can reach over 90 dB if hands are close to the air outlet due to sound deflection from the high-velocity air stream. Excel has developed a new 1.1 nozzle that can lower the decibel level to under 90 dB and adds only 2-3 seconds to drying time. OSHA regulations require ear protection for continuous sound over 90 dB for 8 hours or 95 dB for 4 hours.
The document provides specifications for electric hand dryers manufactured by Excel Dryer Inc. It includes three sections: general notes and requirements, product data submittals, and specifications for the XLERATOR electric hand dryer. The XLERATOR dries hands completely in 10 seconds using 80% less energy than conventional dryers. It has an automatic infrared sensor and is available in plastic, stainless steel, or zinc alloy covers.
The document discusses various green certifications and organizations that have endorsed the XLERATOR hand dryer as meeting sustainability standards. It lists several LEED credits the hand dryer can help facilities obtain and notes the hand dryer is GreenSpec listed, endorsed by the Green Restaurant Association and Green Hotels Association, and listed in the Oikos Product Directory. The Green Building Initiative is also mentioned as an organization Excel Dryer supports.
Several studies have found that warm air hand dryers are more hygienic than other drying methods like paper towels. They reduce bacteria and viruses on hands more effectively due to the warm air penetrating crevices and dehydrating the skin faster. While one study funded by paper towel makers found otherwise, it had flawed methodology and was not peer reviewed. Most medical research has concluded that warm air dryers do not spread more bacteria in the air and may reduce it compared to other surfaces in washrooms.
Niles Township School District 219 in Illinois was facing budget cuts and looking for ways to reduce costs. They installed Excel XLERATOR hand dryers in the school restrooms to replace paper towels and traditional hand dryers. This saved the district over $16,500 per year in reduced maintenance costs and $12,500 in paper towel costs. The dryers also used less energy, saving $4,160 per year. The dryers paid for themselves within two years and helped teach students the importance of reducing waste and conserving energy.
The document provides an overview of a development project focused on improving the public perception of public restrooms. It discusses common nuisances faced by users, such as a lack of privacy and cleanliness. Research included visits to local restrooms and interviews with users. Analysis found users were uncomfortable with shared and dirty spaces. The concept presented is a modular restroom system centered around a self-cleaning toilet pod called an "Escape Pod." The pod aims to provide privacy, cleanliness and sustainability through features like a steam-cleaned seat, integrated hand dryer and water recycling. A prototype was built to demonstrate the concept. Further business development is discussed to commercialize the improved public restroom experience.
The document summarizes Excel Dryer's XLERATOR hand dryer. Key points:
- The XLERATOR dries hands 3 times faster than conventional dryers, in 10-15 seconds, using 80% less energy.
- It has received numerous awards and designations, including being the first hand dryer approved by GreenSpec and to help qualify for LEED credits.
- An analysis shows the XLERATOR outperforms paper towels on energy use and other environmental impacts.

This document provides a template for calculating and comparing the annual costs of using paper towels versus electric hand dryers. It outlines how to calculate the annual costs for paper towels based on factors like the number of cases used per year and cost per case. It then provides fields to calculate the annual electricity costs for operating hand dryers based on electricity rate, dryer wattage, and estimated number of dryer uses per year. The template also includes calculations for determining the annual savings from switching to dryers and the payback period in months for the upfront purchase and installation costs of the dryers.
Hand dryers have received criticism due to outdated studies and myths, but modern hand dryers address these issues and provide environmental and cost benefits over paper towels. Specifically, older studies claiming hand dryers spread bacteria have been debunked, modern hands-free dryers are more hygienic than surfaces like sinks. Additionally, the upfront and operating costs of hand dryers are lower than paper towels when factors like maintenance and waste are considered. Hand dryers also install and operate with minimal maintenance compared to paper towel dispensers.
The XLERATOR hand dryer from Excel Dryer was selected by the editors of Buildings magazine as an "Editors' Choice" product. The XLERATOR dries hands completely in 10-15 seconds using 80% less energy than conventional dryers. It provides significant cost savings over paper towels and improves restroom hygiene while requiring little maintenance. In testing, the editors found the XLERATOR to be highly effective at drying hands quickly, environmentally friendly in its energy use and elimination of paper towel waste, and durable with no moving parts requiring contact.
The USGBC built new LEED Gold and Platinum rated headquarters in Washington D.C. to practice green building principles. They installed high-speed, energy efficient Xlerator hand dryers donated by Excel Dryer that use 80% less energy than conventional dryers. The Xlerator helps the building qualify for LEED credits and sets a new standard for hand dryers. Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
