The Philippines, through the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), will host the 11th Association of Southeast Asian Nations – Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (ASEAN-SOMRDPE) on June 16-19, 2014, in Panglao Island, Bohol.
The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) supports the filing of petition for indirect initiative to enact the Coconut Farmers’ Trust Fund Act of 2014. The bill aims to develop the country’s coconut industry and provide benefits long overdue to poor coconut farmers.
President Benigno S. Aquino III mandated the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) to take the lead in bringing back home the victims of super typhoon Yolanda who fled to Metro Manila, Cebu and other places in the country.
NAPC held a rapid assessment of the survivors who are temporarily housed at the Jose Fabella Center in Mandaluyong City and at the Tent City inside the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. The survey result served as the basis in conceptualizing the “Balik Pamayanan Package.”
The number of affected people has increased to
11.8 million. Typhoon Haiyan left 4,460 dead, 921,200
people displaced and 243,600 houses destroyed.
• Fuel in Tacloban City is expected to run out in days.
•Three logistics hubs are now operational in Samar and
Leyte (Tacloban City, Guiuan and Ormoc City). Truck
shortage and blocked roads continue to delay relief
operations.
• The Haiyan Action Plan is 19 per cent funded ($58
million). As of 15 November, the Humanitarian Country
Team will convene daily donor briefings in Manila.
• An estimated 11.5 million people are affected by Typhoon Haiyan; 544,600 people remain displaced.
• Trucks and fuel are urgently needed to deliver aid. Debris and logistics continue to severely constrain the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
• The Emergency Relief Coordinator visited the most affected areas of Tacloban City to take stock of the humanitarian situation.
• Transporting and distributing food, emergency shelter material, hygiene kits, body bags and establishing a family tracing service are urgently needed in Tacloban for the next days.
• The Haiyan Action Plan, launched on 12 November, is 13 per cent funded ($38 million).
