To ensure that learning occurs in classrooms district leaders must insist on hiring teachers with efficient skills in the subject area they teach. Those who teach math must be proficient for the grade level they are teaching with knowledge of more than one way to teach math concepts. The same is true for ELA. Antiquated methods for teaching must be removed and innovative technology must replace green, non-digital white boards, and black boards. Boards must be technology friendly and capable of moving to the height needed for students or teachers who require wheel chairs.
For those students, who need special reading, audio and visual apparatuses equity for access must be granted. Reso.

Bosqueville ISD
I have been teaching at Bosqueville Elementary for 12 years, teaching
4th/5th grade math as well as gifted education. During my time at
Bosqueville, I have been an instructional technology leader on our
campus. I enjoy helping teachers find ways to engage their students
through the use of technology. I send out a weekly email that I call
Classroom Power Tools in which I share a specific website or app that can
be used in the classroom. I facilitate events such as Hour of Code and
Innovation Day to give our students opportunities to engage in
meaningful learning. I have written grants and received Lego Robotics,
furniture to design a flexible space, and Chromebooks for our classroom.
I am passionate about instructional technology and I feel like it is evident
in my current classroom. I find ways to make the learning meaningful for
my students using technology and enjoy finding new tools that will meet
the needs of my students.
Currently, I service the gifted education population at our elementary. In
doing so, I have found ways to engage and motivate these students to
think outside the box and prepare for their futures in our quickly
changing society. I have given my students an opportunity to explore
their passions by incorporating Genius Hour into my classroom. This
encourages my students to learn by collaborating, creating,
communicating, and thinking critically. I am passionate about ensuring
that gifted learners are given every opportunity to become self directed
learners that are able to find creative ways to investigate and innovate.

Bruceville Eddy Elementary
During my time at Bruceville-Eddy Elementary I taught 4th/5th grade
math and science. I taught with many great educators and began
learning how to use different teaching strategies to make learning
meaningful for my students. I made great connections at Bruceville Eddy
and felt like I was an important part of the staff. My time at this
elementary gave me the confidence to try new things in my classroom.

I believe that if what we are teaching in our classrooms is not meaningful for our students, it
is a waste of our time and theirs. My message is one that encourages risk-taking and
creativity in the classroom while giving ownership of the learning back to the students.
My presentations are always very well-attended and well-received. I enjoy connecting and
sharing with an audience while sharing best practices and innovative ideas to engage and
motivate the learners in our classrooms.
Finding Creative Ways to Engage Gifted Learners
I believe that teachers must provide gifted learners with an education that is challenging and
engaging. I do not feel like these students should be used as peer tutors, teacher helpers, or
given busy work. Instead, I feel that we must find ways to ignite a passion for learning and
innovation that will benefit them as they move into a quickly changing society.
Communicating with Parents and Colleagues
I am easy to talk to and enjoy sharing strategies with teachers as well as parents. I enjoy
finding ways to communicate with others and encouraging them to make their classroom
more engaging and meaningful for their students. I also enjoy encouraging parents to
become involved in their child's learning and advocate for them so that everyone can benefit
from the school experience.
