This document summarizes the editor's rationale for creating a new edition of Heitor Villa-Lobos's Twelve Studies for Guitar. The original editions contained few fingering indications and conventions that could be confusing, such as unnecessary accidentals. The new edition addresses these issues by adding detailed fingering, standardizing the notation of harmonics, and applying consistent repeat markings. It also corrects a few errors from the original. The editor aimed to produce a version that would be clearer and easier for a broad range of guitarists to learn from while maintaining the artistic elements of Villa-Lobos's work.
