Valerie Bloom was born in 1956,Clarendon Jamaica.
In 1979 she decided to move from her home town to England where she attended the University of Kent at Canterbury.
From 1982 to 1984 she earned an honours degree at the University of Kent she was later awarded an Honorary Masters Degrees .
Throughout her life she has had many different jobs including a librarian an arts officer and even a steel band instructor.
 
She is inspired by Caribbean life as she grew up in Jamaica. She also uses a lot of Creole in her poetry.
She has published many poetry books including `Whoop and shout’ which is a children’s poetry Book and was published in 2003 and `Hot like Fire’ which is a poetry book for all ages and was published in 2002.
