G.I. Theta Chi Press Release
In the Spring of 2015, the Zeta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the
University of Kentucky made “G.I. Theta Chi” it’s official Spring Philanthropy Event.
After the first attempt at a successful event in 2015; the Chapter had promoted
“G.I. Theta Chi” and the USO cause around campus, received great participation from
Kentucky’s Greek Community, and in the end was able to raise $3,000.
In 2016, the Zeta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity decided to plan for the
event from the start of the year so that 100% effort could be put into making the event the
best it can be. The Fraternity really wanted to focus on fundraising and USO relations for
the upcoming Spring.
For fundraising, Theta Chi held three restaurant nights around Lexington and
called numerous local business owners to get donations. To focus on USO relations so
that a tight bond could be formed for years to come, Theta Chi appointed two USO
Relations Chairmen, Alec Otero and Zack Thomas. They created a fantastic working
relationship and helped coordinate the event alongside the Philanthropy Chairmen, Joey
Gdovka and Spencer Watson.
The “G.I. Theta Chi” 2016 was an incredible success. Nearly every Greek
organization at the University of Kentucky fielded teams to compete in the Military-
Themed events. Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and Kappa Delta Sorority teamed up to win
1st place.
At the end of the day, the Brothers of Theta Chi were incredibly excited to find
out that they had more than quintupled their total amount raised from 2015 by raising
$15,189.53 for the USO.
This has quickly given “G.I. Theta Chi” the reputation on campus as one of the
premier philanthropy events to be a part of. With fantastic USO relations formed and the
bar set incredibly high for the future, the men of the Zeta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi
Fraternity are excited to begin planning the 2017 event so that they can raise even more
money for the USO and the amazing things they do for the brave men and women who
serve the United States.
