Mexico forbade more Americans from settling in Texas and enforced anti-slavery laws. This led Texans to declare independence from Mexico in 1836. The Battle of the Alamo occurred where Santa Anna's Mexican army defeated the Americans defending the Alamo in San Antonio. Americans later cried "Remember the Alamo" when fighting Mexico to honor those who died at the Alamo defending Texas.
