Laos is a landlocked, mountainous Southeast Asian country with a population of around 6.5 million people. It opened to tourism in 1990 and its attractions now include the mysterious Plain of Jars, which still poses dangers from unexploded ordnance, and the capital city of Vientiane, known for its Buddhist temples and the Lao National Museum.
