This is a very worthwile initiative - and it does not only relate to WW2, but has current relevance for refugees, asylum seekers, policymakers and researchers alike.
Civil rights issues in Australia stemmed from the mistreatment of Aboriginal people following European settlement in 1788. Over subsequent decades, Aboriginal populations declined sharply due to conflict, disease, and massacres. In the 19th century, many Aboriginal people lost their rights to vote or were forced onto missions and reserves with their lives strictly controlled. In the 20th century, assimilation policies aimed to destroy Aboriginal culture and identity, resulting in the forced removal of many Aboriginal children from their families - known as the Stolen Generations. Throughout the 20th century, Aboriginal Australians campaigned for equal rights and recognition, culminating in a national apology from the Prime Minister in 2008 for past mistreatment and the impact of policies like assimilation.
Xenophobia refers to an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners. Throughout history, xenophobic attacks have led to violence and murder against millions simply for being from another race or country. Even today, xenophobia remains a problem, growing stronger during times of economic recession and fueling hate crimes. To combat xenophobia, it's important to understand why it occurs due to factors like skin color, ethnicity, sex, age, culture, religion, or ideology. We must work to promote acceptance of all people regardless of their differences.
This document lists the ministers of the Jamaican government and their respective ministries. It identifies Prime Minister Andrew Holness as Minister of Education and names 16 other ministers and their portfolios, which include Foreign Affairs, Finance, Housing, Labour, National Security, Health, Industry, Tourism, Transport, Youth and Sports, Justice, Agriculture, Energy, and two ministers without portfolio.
The document discusses the history and evolution of human rights from ancient codes like the Code of Hammurabi to modern declarations like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It outlines key documents and events that established and promoted rights like the Magna Carta, Declaration of the Rights of Man, European Convention on Human Rights, and Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. It also discusses the establishment of the United Nations and related covenants/declarations to protect global human rights.
Xenophobia and discrimination against immigrants is driven by poverty and lack of economic opportunity rather than genuine security concerns. While countries try to restrict immigration through harsh policies like deportation and detention camps, this fails to address the root causes of migration and exacerbates tensions. A more just and compassionate solution lies in promoting development, poverty alleviation, and political/economic reforms in places that migrants originate from.
The issue of asylum is arguably one of the most politicised in Australia and elsewhere. Critics argue for a strict distinction between legal and illegal immigration, while supporters of the right to asylum highlight human rights abuses, war, and starvation as legitimate reasons for benevolence. States over the last two decades have increased the policing of borders, detention and deportation of would-be refugees. We shall examine the various approaches to the debate situating it within a view on globalization that highlights the apparently unstoppable flow of humans and the possible futility of borders in a transnational age defined by risk, uncertainty and the human instinct for survival.
The genocide in Rwanda occurred from April to July 1994. During this period, over 800,000 Tutsi people and moderate Hutus were deliberately killed by extremist Hutu groups. Rwanda is a small East African country, populated mainly by the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups. Tensions between the two groups escalated, ultimately leading Hutu extremists to systematically target and murder Tutsi civilians and others over the course of 100 days. The killings devastated Rwandan society and had widespread effects across Africa.

Australia is often referred to as a society of immigrants and, since the 1970s, as a multicultural society. We shall look at the evolution from ‘White Australia’ to modern multiculturalism, and beyond, at the current ‘crisis of multiculturalism’. We shall also look at the problematic relationship between multiculturalism and Aboriginal claims for recognition. This shall lead us to question what forms race take today in a rapidly changing Australia. In particular, how does the immigration system, with its emphasis on ‘skilled migration’, contribute to writing a particular version of the national story and citizenship, one that arguably is still ‘raced’.

Role of social and human capital in business model adaptationAntonio Dottore
Paper presented at the 2013 Babson Conference on entrepreneurship. It shows that certain types of social capital (from networking) and of human capital (mostly experience-based) are important for business model adaptation in new ventures.
The interaction of the two (Social*Human) creates useful synergies.
This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of
the great composer and virtuoso pianist
Franz Liszt (1811-1886).
Described as ‘a genius with a touch of the charlatan’, his
scandalous affairs and flamboyant style at the
piano and in society made him one of the most famous
figures of the nineteenth century.
This concert tells the story of a visionary in words and music
via Rome, Petrarch and Italian Opera.

Business Model adaptation in Apulian agro-food sector: A prelim analysisAntonio Dottore
This document outlines a study on business model adaptation in the agro-food sector in the Italian region of Apulia. The study will take a field-based approach through interviews and case studies to develop theory inductively, as there is a lack of existing theory on business model adaptation. Preliminary results from initial case studies indicate frameworks from unpublished works will provide useful guidance. The purpose is to understand how firms in the agro-food sector adapt their business models and what facilitates or impedes adaptation.
Business model adaptation (or innovation) as a dynamic capabilityAntonio Dottore
I presented this paper at the 22nd Bled eConference in June 2009. It is part of my thought process, to develop theoretical insights into BM adaptation/innovation.
An astonishing, first-of-its-kind, report by the NYT assessing damage in Ukraine. Even if the war ends tomorrow, in many places there will be nothing to go back to.

News Release148 Murray Street, Gawler, S.A., 5118.Phone (08) 85 222 878 Fax: (08) 85 231 392Tony Piccolo MPState Member for LightParliamentary Secretary to the PremierChair, Volunteer Ministerial Advisory GroupDeputy Chair, Business Development CouncilNational Convenor, F.I.A.P. Wednesday 3rd August 2011
Recognise wartime internment suffering says MP
The impact that internment in Australian camps during World War Two had on the lives of migrants and their families will come under the spotlight in the South Australia Parliament as a result of a motion moved by State Labor Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.
Last week Mr Piccolo moved a ten part motion that seeks to shed some light on the experiences of people of Italian, German and Japanese background (amongst others) who were interned at Loveday in the South Australian Riverland, and other camps around Australia during the war.
Established in 1941, Loveday held 5382 internees at its peak in May 1943.
The 1st of June 2011 marked the 70th anniversary of the opening of the internment camps at Loveday.
The camps were constructed for the purpose of detaining “enemy aliens” and prisoners of war.
Mr Piccolo said he had moved the motion after he had heard many stories from the families who were affected by the internment policy.
“The policy resulted in thousands of Australian citizens being deprived of their liberty for no other reason apart from their cultural background,” Mr Piccolo said.
The motion states “that most people were primarily interned in the camps on the basis of their cultural heritage, on the mistaken belief that it posed an unreasonable risk, and not for any demonstrated or validated criminal or security concerns.”
Mr Piccolo said the motion seeks to recognise the pain, suffering, grief, and hardship, experienced by the people who were interned and their families.
“Internment had a shocking impact on mothers and wives who were left to care for children, homes, farms or businesses alone, without government assistance as other Australians could count on,” Mr Piccolo said.
Many of the so called “enemy aliens” interned at the Loveday camps were people who were permanent residents of, or were born in Australia or had become British subjects in accordance with the federal immigration and citizenship laws of the day.
Mr Piccolo said that while the internment policy was implemented in the circumstances of a national emergency, it nevertheless resulted in a great deal of injustice that was unnecessary and avoidable.
The motion also recognises the significant contribution that former internees and their families have made on the economic, social and cultural development of Australia despite having to rebuild their lives after internment.
Mr Piccolo said he hoped that as a maturing nation we have learnt from the World War Two internment experience “to ensure that future generations of migrants to this country, and their descendants, are treated with justice and equality before the law, and not discriminated against on the sole basis of their cultural heritage.”
Mr Piccolo is keen to hear from people whose families were affected by the internment of a family member as he would like to be able to incorporate the very “human stories” when he debates the motion in State Parliament on the 20th October 2011.
“We have only recently started to analyse these events in our history.”
“Until now the war time internment policy has been hidden away from the general public.”
“Hopefully, this motion will enable former internees and their families to speak out and have their stories heard.”
END
Further comment can be obtained from Tony Piccolo MP on 08 85 22 2878.
