According to the 2016 Edelman Trust Barometer, half of employees think it is important that their CEO exhibits highly ethical behavior but only 25% believe that they see it.
It's another experiment in Glenn's ongoing project of being an accountable, honest, transparent and open leader. He'd love your thoughts and feedback and there are links in the slides.

a smart goals template
To begin and well before the smart goals template is created one must be sure that the project or purpose for the goal is solid.
This means an examination or inventory of who you are, what you are, and why you are. Some insight to this here. [Ref Project Mayhem]
So let’s assume that part is behind you. Here’s a short story.
In 1979 I came to the US, by 1982 I had my first opportunity as a line manager.
a smart goals templateI was appointed manager of the Turning Department at Western Gear Corporation a manufacturer of precision transmissions for both commercial and military aircraft.
The era was that of the “One Minute Manager” [Ref One Minute Manager Video With Ken Blanchard] and “Thriving on Chaos”.
a smart goals template
This is the plan, see I have a smart goals template.
If you have an individual or a group of individuals and they are not well managed or supervised their attitude towards a task will be…..
….approached based upon:
• The work ethic of the individual.
• His/her morals, meaning what is it can I get away with today.[Based on the notion that people are basically lazy]
• The extent that he/she believes someone is watching their movements. [The cat is away, the mouse will play]
The One Minute Manager cites the example where the above occurred, but then also cites what occurred when the individual was challenged.
“So Bill, how long does it take to make one of these widgets?” Bill replies “oh about 10 minutes”.
Bill is half way through his shift, he has worked four hours. There are fifteen widgets completed. “So Bill, you have worked four hours and you have fifteen widgets completed, 15 x 10 = 150 minutes = 2-1/2 hours work, what did you do for the other 1-1/2 hours?”

1. To whom it may concern
Hello My name is Ian M Foster and I am writing to your company and with
some consideration you may see me as some value that you would like to add
to your field business ,Attached is My C.V that is quite vast ,yet it only tells a
small story about my past, skills and ability ,My past has been fulfilling, It’s
even brought me down , Yet I have always moved on to bigger and better
ground , No matter the situation or task put to hand, I can only give my best,
As that’s the man I am .
I have had positions in management, That I did not want at the time, For
whatever reason holds no concern, This type of situation has never been new
to me, As it had happened on occasions way back from when I was 18, I have
always been a leader in everything I have done, even when at school so many
years ago , I happened to be promoted to Training sergeant in Mudgee Cadet
Corpe 204 , Australia’s 1st
line of defence as it known.
In this position I stayed around 4 years ,I asked my CO why others where
ranking up and I was standing still ,In His words was this ,”Fozz your very good
at what you do and those that have moved past just cannot fill your shoes”.
How this influenced my life is the 43 year old man I am today, In every
situation the very thing that brings me success with the job, staff and others all
around is that I have never put myself above the rest ,But always built common
ground , this has forever gained me respect, honesty and success My teams
have always gained required results , Purely as I work with them as people, I
talk to my people, Not at my people ,When I see failings arising ,I get down
and dirty with the team as part of the team , Initiating a more efficient way
without offense , In almost every single establishment of where I have held
employment , I have made successful changes even if only small.
Mind you I have also managed to be Sacked, retrenched or simply not asked
back , Simply due to having a mind that works well and on the odd occasion
personal conflict, not initiated by me, But I will always stand my ground when I
know I am absolutely rite ,Good or Bad thing ,In my seeing of things, Yes I have
lost out but I haven’t failed ,I have just learnt more.
2. Over many years in the field of mechanic’s, I have designed and
manufactured asset’s purely for efficient and safer practices, In most of these
cases I have used materials just laying around the place, Added my knowledge
and manufactured some pretty amazing tooling and device’s, Many reactions I
have received from this ,,Is WOW ,,How did you do that?,, Fozz you’re a
machine ,,”you just look at what we have got and “BAM”!!! you make it
happen ,, I have been sent out into remote area’s to solve problems others
could not .
I have often asked “Why are you sending me”. Fozz you’re the idea’s man,
and we know you will sought it out. And yes in 99% of these case’s I have
cured the illness whether temporary or long term.
I have been sent to satellite depots when working in Fleet maintenance
unbeknown to me at the time ,To fault find asset and budget loss’s, My
national fleet manager always referred me as a stand-up Guy who put the fleet
before all else, Sadly I thought I was just helping out a suffering depot, On
being set on the ground my eyes burst wide open, So many procedures not
being followed, attaining to safety including fleet asset, In 10 days from my
placement ,I was encouraged to pass on my findings not only to the fleet
manager but even further above himself, I presented my findings, After 10
days, and the report that I never knew was part of the position ,My report
actually created a budget saving of around $500,000 per month ,all through
doing things to the manufacturers specifications correct procedure and correct
material/product use. Very important when running Fuel freighter fleets
(Chuckling) In one case working in a team , Just as a nobody, I designed and
built a tooling device in one shift, Put it into action and it worked very well ,
The job at hand was the 1st
ever done in Australia , Every crew member seen it
was fantastic. I happened to get dragged over coals for it and even though in
3. the creating of the tool I had covered safety and the correct procedure of use,
The Bureaucracy slammed the device down.
So did I fail my team ,,”NO” I did not ,It was night shift ,No certifiables around
,Not even management , We were on a time schedule not even Caterpillar had
a procedure known ,It was The very 1st
, and our crew got it done , In a safe
manner and with an Actual procedure . I often think about it, and often refer
to the situation.
I guess you’re sitting there having a bit of a laugh ,Thinking what is this guy on
about and do I want him on my staff.
For my person, It is not just about the mechanics , It’s all about what the
mechanics can do, The aptitude the mechanics of many situations and how
adaptable they truly are, Innovation, Adaption and diversification.
My Qualifications Is what I do and how I do it, My ability to fully understand
the basic fundamentals of how and what to achieve the desired goal.
I believe in the power of the Basic fundamentals, I believe in not making things
more difficult than they need to be, I have worked very closely with Engineers
and mechanics in many situations, often there failures have led from over
thinking to achieve the simple desired function.
Anyhow this is just a little of the man that I am ,My C.V covers a little more, I
figure through conversation you will discover even more , Though you may not
actually see “me” , Until I am “doing” on your floor .
I hope you have enjoyed my story and you keep me in mind, I don’t have a
head for television, though I certainly believe in my ability, knowledge and
4. mind, I am a can do man, That is who I am, From here on in, It is all in your
hands
Thankyou for your time
Ian M Foster
