1) It was common for families to own guns for protection, and houses would have them displayed. Maids helped keep homes clean.
2) Church was an important part of community life, and people dressed formally to attend services.
3) Formal events like court saw ladies in dresses and hats and men in suits. Proper etiquette like standing for others was expected.
4) School attendance was not strictly enforced, and kids would help on farms or go home for lunch if they lived nearby. Others brought sack lunches.
