This doctoral thesis examines ergonomics and safety in the homes of older adults and for home care workers. It includes 7 studies that analyze: 1) postures of home care workers assisting with toileting, 2) daily activities of older adults such as cooking and laundry, 3) developing a walker with a lifting device to help older adults get up from falls, and 4) accessibility for older adults using walkers in their local environment. The thesis concludes that home design and equipment need improvements to better support the needs of older adults aging at home and home care workers.
