Through the eyes of newly born rats, ordinary household objects appeared dramatically different in size and form: a dustbin looked like a tank of boulders, a banana like hanging bridges, and a watermelon like the flaming sun. Even natural elements were distorted: coins appeared as islands, cars as towering ships, and stray sand as vast mountains. The rats found their new world simultaneously bewildering, fascinating, and empowering.
