The document discusses how crating can benefit puppies. It notes that puppies are descended from wolves that found comfort in dens, and modern dogs also find solace in their own space. Crating can also provide a sanctuary for over-excited puppies and protection from young children by enforcing quiet time.
Potty training a puppy takes time and consistency but can be done in a relatively short period if the proper techniques are used. It is important to establish a routine where the puppy is taken outside first thing in the morning, after meals, and every 1-2 hours to relieve itself. The owner should accompany the puppy outside each time and use a cue word when it goes to reward the behavior. It is also helpful to keep a record of eating, drinking, and bathroom breaks to recognize patterns and cues from the puppy. The key is patience, routine, and avoiding mistakes like leaving the puppy inside for too long unsupervised or expecting it to ask to go out on its own.

The Importance of Black Women Understanding the Chemicals in Their Personal C...bkling
Certain chemicals, such as phthalates and parabens, can disrupt the body's hormones and have significant effects on health. According to data, hormone-related health issues such as uterine fibroids, infertility, early puberty and more aggressive forms of breast and endometrial cancers disproportionately affect Black women. Our guest speaker, Jasmine A. McDonald, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York City, discusses the scientific reasons why Black women should pay attention to specific chemicals in their personal care products, like hair care, and ways to minimize their exposure.

Things to know before getting puppy
1. Puppies are absolutely adorable; there's no doubt. But
they are TOUGH work. More than mostpeople probably
expect. There's so much to prepare for, including
mentally for yourself. Here are some things you should
keep in mind before welcoming a new furry member into
your family:
1. Crate training will be brutal, but you have to get
through the first week. Puppies have grown up with their
littermates and their mom — so putting them alone in a
crate will be a huge adjustment.
They're going to cry, whine, make you feel like a bad dog
parent — but you have to let them do it. They will tire
themselves out eventually after about 15 minutes. Just
be consistent and don't give in!
Pro tip: Try covering the crate with a blanket — if your
puppy can't see you, they won't yelp as much
2. Puppies get up to pee in the middle of the night every
two to three hours, so prepare for some sleepless nights.
2. A common practice is to put the crate in your room at
first so you can easily take them out or bring them to
their potty area.
3. But for some good news, they sleep roughly 18 to 20
hours a day.
. To get your puppy more comfortable with the crate,
feed them their meals in there. You can also throw in
a Kong at night as their treat, add an old shirt with your
scent on it, and a blanket with their mother's scent if you
have that available.
Kong is a chew toy that you can fill with treats and
freeze. It will keep them occupied and busy! You can fill it
with peanut butter, Greek yogurt, meat, fruits, etc.
5. Keep your puppy on a very consistent schedule. It's
KEY to potty training
They will need to be taken out VERY often. Every time
they go to the bathroom, they should be outside 10–15
minutes later.
6. Teething is VERY REAL. They will eat your furniture,
your clothes, your toes, your calves, and anything that
moves. Puppies are basically mini land sharks, and it can
freakin' hurt.
3. Teething will get better as time goes on, but it is totally
normal if your dog is a chomper. Don't think you're doing
something wrong.
If you're wondering how to curb puppy biting, try Zak
George videos!
7. Scolding your puppy will not help. Positive
reinforcement is typically the trainer-preferred method.
Your puppy does something you like? Give them a treat.
Your puppy pees on the floor? Don't say a word, and
clean it up with spray. Your puppy bites your hands?
Redirect with a toy and treat. Yelling at them will only
make them scared of you.
