1. Building chosen: 4 shoplots near Giant
Theories derived from Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities is
“The need of mixed primary uses”.
Key Points derived from this theory:
1. The district, and indeed as many of its internal parts as possible, must serve
more than one primary function; preferably more than two. These must
insure the presence of people who go outdoors on different schedules and are
in the place for different purposes but who are able to use many facilities
in common.
Location
It is visible from the main road of Bandar Puteri Puchong, Lebuh Puteri.
Economic
The economic effects of people spread through the time of the day. The continuity
of the movement of people depends on an economic foundation of basic mixed
uses.
When mixed primary uses is combined effectively with another that puts people
on the street at different times, this will also be economically stimulating.
Users
The need of mixed primary uses in a place/ building is important to serve the
people the basic needs of a user.
Residential population would stimulate the development of shopping facilities and
other basic facilities.
Infusion of potential uses will result in maximum number of people at the place.
2. Diversity in an area stimulate when mixed primary uses are effective. There are 3
conditions in order to generate diversity:
- People using the streets at different times must actually use the same street.
(People passing by the Lebuh Puteri will be able to see Giant which is visible
from the Lebuh Puteri Road)
- People using the same streets at different times must include, among them,
people who will use some of the same facilities.
- Mixture of people on a street at one time of the day must bear some
reasonably proportion are relationship to people there at other times of the
day
