One of America's landmark homes, the Miami Beach mansion that once belonged to Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace. Gianni Versace bought this 1930s style Mediterranean mansion in 1992 and spent an estimated $33 million on improvements. In 1997 he was tragically shot to death by a serial killer on the mansion’s doorstep. The former Versace mansion was originally built by Standard Oil heir Alden Freeman. It was modeled after the Alcazar de Colon palace built in the Dominican Republic in 1510 by the son of Christopher Columbus. The 23,000 square foot mansion is located in Miami Beach on the famed South Beach Ocean Drive.
