4. THE UK’S FIRST MULTI COMFORT BUILDING
INDOOR AIR
COMFORT
In Multi Comfort
buildings, indoor air is
kept fresh and clean –
while harmful
pollutants, whatever
the source, are
reduced
THERMAL
COMFORT
A Multi Comfort
building has
temperatures of relative
stability, neither too hot
nor too cold, so
we can function
comfortably, whatever
we’re doing.
.
ACOUSTIC
COMFORT
Multi Comfort
buildings have
well balanced acoustic
environments to block
out unwanted, harmful
noise and enhance
those sounds that we
want, and need, to hear.
VISUAL
COMFORT
Multi Comfort
buildings have the right
type and right amount of
light, neither too much
nor too little, for specific
tasks – whether
it’s bedtime reading,
performing surgery or
completing work

Editor's Notes
Did you know that as human beings we spend up to 90% of our time inside - either in our vehicles or in buildings – much of this, we spend in our homes
This means that our homes are likely to be having a significant impact on our comfort, health and wellbeing
But how aware of this do you think people are generally?
As part of the Task Group that produced the UKGBC Health & Wellbeing in Homes report - we couldn’t find any real evidence from research already done that told us if general consumers – in this case homeowners and renters in the UK - were aware of the impact their homes could have on their Health and Wellbeing
So we did our own research – and today I will share those findings
My name is Stacey Temprell, Habitat Marketing Director for Saint-Gobain
Saint-Gobain commissioned and carried out the research with homeowners and renters in the UK that was used as part of the UKGBC homes report
You may not be aware of Saint-Gobain, but you may know us better by one of our construction product and distribution brands, that are all part of Saint-Gobain in the UK
Saint-Gobain believe that buildings should be designed for people
This led us to develop our Multi Comfort design concept for buildings – which ensures users experience Thermal Comfort, Acoustic Comfort, Visual Comfort and Indoor-Air Comfort
We have our own reference build programme underway to demonstrate how buildings can be designed in this way to give us improved comfort, health and wellbeing, whilst protecting the environment.
You can learn more about the Multi Comfort building concept and how our first building is performing in use at

So in the next few minutes, I will share the headline results of the survey we carried out of 3024 UK homeowners and renters on this topic
The objective of this survey was to find out if UK homeowners and renters prioritize their own health and wellbeing,
and if they recognize and value, the attributes of a home that can affect their comfort, health and wellbeing.
Therefore, Saint-Gobain conducted a survey of 3024 UK homeowners and renters
In addition to being representative from a basic demographic profile, there was a representative spread of respondents across all UK regions

Three-quarters of the sample live in a house (mainly semi-detached); the remaining quarter live in (mainly purpose built) apartment or flats. the sample was split evenly between those who own their home and those who rent, either privately or via social housing.
