The Taj Mahal in Agra, India was commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1632 as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took over 20,000 workers 22 years to construct the white marble tomb which contains two main tombs surrounded by 16 smaller chambers, following Islamic architectural traditions. Legends say the Taj Mahal was designed by the architect Amanat Khan and that it will sink into the ground on the Day of Judgement.
