The fish lives alone in a bowl and finds the constant light irritating, wishing it could escape for a day to explore. It has vivid dreams of exploring but can only remember its daily feeding by the person it tries talking to without success. Finally, the fish laments its loneliness and lack of companionship until a new addition is placed in the bowl - a friend.
1. The ramblings of a fish
From the day I was born all I remember is this bowl and the light shining from all around me no
matter when. The lights are hard to handle all of the time they are constantly keeping me from sleeping
as I swim around in my home with all of its curves around me. I do not know what makes up my home it
just holds me within its confinements with the invisible shield that I can see right through. I wish I could
escape this place even for just one day though, but only for a day so I could explore what else this world
has to offer me without me having to make a commitment to it.
I have a hard time seeing remembering what I last did just a few seconds ago, but I can always
remember these dreams of mine to explore around myself. These dreams haunt me because all I ever
see is the giant thing that feeds me once a day and that provides me with the brief moment of shade in
the process. I have tried to talk to this person but it seems as if he does not understand the motions I
make as I swim as he should. I have a hard time just being alone in here with all of these thoughts and
problems.
Finally all I have to say is that I wish I had just a single friend. Someone to help these long days
go by. What is this the giant thing is coming back to feed me, but he is carrying something new. What is
it that he could be carrying with him from this world far beyond that I so wish to see. Here it comes
closer to the bowl he is putting it inside with me. Oh no I cannot believe it he brought me a friend.
