The United States Lawn Mower Racing Association celebrated its 25th Anniversary on April 1, 2017. This edition of The Blade highlights the fun we had celebrating April Fuel's Day, our Mower to the Moon contest and various celebrations across the country.

Since the USLMRA was founded on
April Fool’s Day in 1992, the oldest
and largest national mower racing
sanctioning body has mowed its way
into the hearts of fun-loving racing
enthusiasts across America.
“We never could have predicted 25
years ago when STA-BIL sponsored
the first USLMRA race that lawn
mower racing would become such
an iconic sport with such an in-
credibly loyal following,” said Marc
Blackman, CEO of Gold Eagle Co.
“A quarter of a century later, it’s big-
ger than ever, and we are proud to
put our name on the sport.”
In honor of its 25th year, the US-
LMRA and title sponsor, STA-BIL,
hosted racing events in three loca-
tions on the anniversary weekend.
Turf Titans gathered in Gun Barrel
City, TX for the STA-BIL Southern
Shootout, Davenport, IA for the
Mecum Gone Farmin’ Tractor Auc-
tion and Green Cove Springs, FL
for the Clay County Fair and South-
ern Mower Madness where racers’
‘mowtivation’ was on full display
while they competed for trophies,
glory, bragging rights and, mow-st
importantly, birthday cake.
“We’re celebrating 25 years of kick-
ing grass, family fun, American in-
genuity and adventure,” said USLM-
RA President, Bruce Kaufman. “No
matter where we mow, there we are!”
Lawn mowers can’t go to space—Happy April
Fuel’s Day! In keeping with USLMRA tradition,
this year we celebrated April Fool’s Day with a
“lawn” con. Last month, we asked racers to apply
to help bring a mower to the moon in honor
of the USLMRA 25th Anniversary and STA-
BIL’s upcoming 60th Anniversary. Although
we’re not headed to the moon this year, we
were overwhelmed by the entries we received!
15 racers raised their hand, but one stood out
above the rest.
In addition to being the winner of the Mower to
the Moon contest, we are thrilled to announce
Damon Mosley as the 2017 USLMRA 25th
Anniversary LAWNSTAR!
Damon was selected from the pool of Mower
on the Moon applicants for being an
exceptionalmemberoftheUSLMRAwho
exemplifies our values of camaraderie,
sportsmanship and safety. Damon was
presented with a special goodie bag
at this weekend’s race and will receive
additional prizes from our friends at
STA-BIL, including financial support to
attend an upcoming race.
“I am honored to be chosen to mow to
the moon,” said Damon. “I’ve been a US
Air Force jet mechanic, performance
flight engineer, C-141 avionics tech and
have built police and EMS helicopters.
I’ve been a private pilot, auto mechanic
and was lead avionics technical on a
White House patrol helicopter after
9.11. I’ve built 10 helicopters for the Los

and this year, the STA-BIL Na-
tional Lawn Mower Racing Series
will welcome old friends from the
British Lawn Mower Racing Asso-
ciation in St. Mary’s County, MD
on July 28-30. The British Race
Weekend will also feature the an-
nual induction ceremonies for the
USLMRA National Lawn Mower
Racing Hall of Fame, a sod after
honor for turf titans nationwide.
“It will be the British Invasion
all over again, with 20 UK racers
competing on racing mowers pro-
vided by their U.S. counterparts. All
systems are mow!” said USLMRA
President, Bruce Kaufman.
