The UP Rip Current Initiative educates the public about rip currents through schools, restaurants, parks and other public areas. They hold monthly meetings and the first Great Lakes Rip Current conference. The Marquette National Weather Service includes rip current risks and forecasts in weather reports. The initiative's model is being replicated in the Great Lakes region and they have set up 10 safety stations along 12 miles of shoreline.
