as well ashisabnormal desiresviarunningnarration. However,hisnarrationisonlyaudible when
alone- asaroundotherpeople he wearsa seriesof deceptive facadesinordertoappear‘normal’.
Withinthis act he is oftenlyingonhisbedalone,readinganatomicaltextsorpreparingfood. We
alsowitnesshimwalkingthroughhiscollege,whereuponCharitiecanbe seenstaringat himamong
a crowd of people. Itishere that theyare impliedtomeet, we cutfromthemstaringat each other
amonga crowdto themsittingbeside one anotherona sofa. Togetheryetstill alone.
In act two,Ryan and Charitie spendmore time together,theywalkthroughacharityshopin
searchof clothes. Whilstshe’schanginghe staresata mannequin,he can’tlookaway. She won’t
stopanalysinghim,tryingtounderstandwhatisdiscordantabouthim. Hisfaçade is beginningto
crumble. He’sstill tryingtoact rationallyaroundher. Alone againhe continuestostudyanatomy,he
createsa meal for themboth,she onlyreacheshishouse afterhe’smade it. Time isbeginningtoslip
away. She commentsonhis cooking,onits stereotypical femininity,he winces. Theythensitbefore
the televisionagain,inthe sterile bluelight. She slowlybeginstotouchhisface andthenleadshim
downa corridor intoa bedroom.
Act three opensinan abstract pagan-esquefeverdream. The subversive footage hashintsof
phallicsymbolisminadditiontoviolent,bloodysacrificesbeingperformed undervividneonlights-
bluesandreds- as a group dancesarounda central emblem, Charitie,tattooedandtiedtoa podium.
Ryan thenawakes,inbedwithastill sleepingCharitie. Staringather,he slowlyplacesherhandon
herneck,testingthe rigidityof herthroat. Hisinnerpsychopathyhasdefeatedhisfaçade. However,
Charitie isawake,eyessurprised she pretendstoawakensoRyanremoveshishand. Theythenget
up,she busiesherself- turnsthe radioon,thencontinuestogetdressedandstare at him. She asks
whyhe was tryingto strangle her. Theythenargue,she psychologicallydiagnosishimandsaysshe
will leave.Ryanisquietbefore imaginingcookingherandbeatingher.Herdeathisambiguous.
‘A Cut of the Teeth’s’demographicwill be intheir20s/30sand fansof the black comedy,suchas
Tarantino,the CoenBrothersand BenWheatley. The audiencemayalsobe fansof violentthrillers or
true crime,enjoying productions suchas ‘Zodiac’,‘Silence of the Lambs’and ‘Mindhunter’. However,

elementsof myfilm. Inordertoreach thisdemographicmyfilmwillappeal totheirmorbidcuriosity
and keepthemhookedviathe limitedexpositionwhichhintsat the gratuitousclimax. Furthermore,
the filmwill lackanyfallingactionasthe pinnacle of the dramaoccurs at the endof the film, one of
my favourite methodstoboostcatharsis. Subsequentlythe narrative’sfinal plotpoint willdevelopin
the final scene,leavingthe audience withasolidimage intheirheadsastheyleave the cinema.
Due to the more leftfieldnature of the film,itwouldmostlikelybe screenedinalternative venuesor
at specificfestivalsfocusingonsmall scale violentdramas. There wouldbe nosequelsoradditional
contentdue to the self-containednature of the production.
