The Teddy Bear originated after President Theodore Roosevelt refused to kill a bear cub on a hunting trip in 1902. This inspired political cartoonist Clifford Berryman to draw a cartoon depicting the event, which in turn inspired toy sellers Morris and Rose Michtom to create the first Teddy's Bear. The Steiff company in Germany also began producing stuffed bear toys. By 1906, Teddy Bears had become a huge craze in the United States, with children and adults frequently being photographed with their bears. Various manufacturers began mass producing Teddy Bears in different styles and colors.
