Six European mountain regions collaborated on the MountEE project to help municipalities realize the vision of nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB). Through careful analysis and collaboration with experts, objectives for new and renovated buildings were established. For example, a school in Austria saw an 80% reduction in heating energy needs after renovation. A school in Sweden generates its own energy from wind turbines. Over 30 pilot buildings are now under construction or renovation to further the low-energy building vision. The project provides advisory services to help municipalities like Mantet, France with only 28 inhabitants achieve ecological standards for projects like a new community hall. This support package is being improved and adapted to different regional needs.
