The Khatanga Undeground Mammoth Museum in Khatanga village on the Taymyr Peninsula in Russia displays woolly mammoth remains found in the region. An 11-year-old boy discovered a 30,000-year-old woolly mammoth, weighing over 1,100 pounds, in the tundra of the Taymyr Peninsula. The museum is located in a former underground food storage area carved into permafrost on the banks of the Khatanga River.
