Table setting refers to how items are arranged on a table for dining and can be formal or informal. The style is influenced by the table service items, menu, and table size. Each "cover" or place setting should have at least 20 inches of space and include a plate in the center, napkin to the left, and flatware arranged with the knife to the right of the plate, blade facing inward. Proper table setting follows guidelines of leaving one inch between items and the table edge.
