Discussion Board: Grading and Best Practicesmmcroberts
This document discusses best practices for using discussion boards. It recommends clarifying expectations for discussions and providing guidelines. The pace and scale of discussions should be considered. Moderators should facilitate, summarize, clarify, and research to promote authentic learning. Cognitive, social, and teacher presence are important. Standards should be set and topics chosen wisely. Discussions can promote critical thinking if moderators ask questions about elaboration, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, significance, fairness and practical tips like reordering forums. Beyond basic discussions, other strategies include inviting guests, problem-based learning, structured debate, peer review, and student-led discussions.
The document discusses three different transportation businesses from the 1940s-60s that were located on streets in Jefferson, including Clayton's Taxi which later became Studio 11, a taxi and bus service on North Main Street from the 50s-60s, and another taxi service on South Jefferson Street from the 1940s that had a three-digit phone number. It also shows a historic photo of a gas station from 1932 where the phone number is partially obscured.
Matter is anything that has mass and volume. There are two types of properties of matter: physical properties and chemical properties. Physical properties are either intensive, such as density and melting point, or extensive, such as mass and volume. Chemical properties refer to how a substance reacts with other substances, like how iron reacts with oxygen to form iron oxide.
The document discusses lessons that can be learned from the industrial development at Mab Ta Phut, Thailand. It summarizes that Mab Ta Phut is now one of the largest industrial estates in Thailand and the world, hosting many oil refineries, petrochemical plants, and other heavy industries. However, the rapid industrialization has caused severe pollution problems from air and water contamination. The local population suffers from high rates of respiratory diseases and cancer. While the economy has grown, people's quality of life has declined. Proper environmental planning and enforcement is needed to avoid similar issues at the Dawei project.
