Synthetic Biologics, Inc., a clinical stage company focused on developing therapeutics to protect the gut microbiome while targeting pathogen-specific diseases, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent that covers use of a range of compounds, including the active agent of SYN-010, for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). This is Synthetic Biologics' first issued U.S. patent directly pertaining to SYN-010 and adds to the Company's extensive IBS-C patent estate.

XRoads Networks, Inc. In its ruling, the federal court denied XRoads' motion for summary judgment of invalidity of FatPipe's patents.”
Kyocera Withdraws Solar Patent Suit against Hanwha Q Cells Japan
In a latest legal spat between companies, Kyoto-based Kyocera withdrew its patent infringement lawsuit against Hanwha Q Cells Japan filed earlier in relation to its Solar Technology patent. The move was taken by the company following the conclusion of a technology-licensing agreement between the two companies.
The lawsuit was filed b the plaintiff in July 2014 with the Tokyo District Court after negotiations with Hanwha failed to progress, according to Kyocera.
Suntory Loses Patent Battle with Asahi over Nonalcoholic Beer
In a new setback, Suntory Holdings Ltd. one of the renowned beverage makers has lost a long-battling patent infringement battle with rival Asahi Breweries Ltd. on Thursday, with the Tokyo District Court rejecting its demand for a halt to production and sales of Asahi’s nonalcoholic beer. Earlier, Suntory filed the lawsuit against Asahi in January after they failed to resolve the dispute through talks. With this patent suit, the plaintiff had sought the suspension of Asahi’s Dry Zero, which was re-launched in September 2013 and in its lawsuit the plaintiff had alleged that Asahi’s Dry Zero products are infringing on patent application filed in November 2012 and approved in October 2013.

In a milestone verdict in the Patent and Trademark arena, one of the renowned Industrial and Marine Ventilation Solution providers, Eldridge, prevails against Jurong Shipyard Pte., over Enjet patent infringement lawsuit. According to verdict, the plaintiff Eldridge will be receiving a hefty sum of $800,000 from Jurong Shipyard Pte., Ltd as a compensatory and monetary injunction in lieu of infringing upon its proprietary patent by the defendant.
The verdict came into existence when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., denied a request by Jurong Shipyard Pte., Ltd., subsidiaries of Atwood Oceanics Inc. and Seadrill Limited, and Azen Manufacturing Pte. Ltd, for a rehearing of the patent suit, reaffirming the court’s decision that the defendants had infringed on Eldridge ENJET’s patent. It is important to underline here that ENJET is a technology that addresses a longstanding problem in the offshore drilling industry and the Houston-based Eldridge originally filed this lawsuit in November 2011.

In a new litigation in the patent and trademark arena, the federal appeals court invalidated Merc’s four of 5 patents pertaining to Cubicin, a drug used to treat various infections in human body. With this judgment, Merck & Co’s four of five patents for the antibiotic Cubicin will be invalidated which it got through its acquisition of Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. The move will offer competitors with a chance to come-up with low-cost, generic version of the drug which was making $1 bn yearly in the United States.

In a latest development in the field of Patent and Trademark, the United States Patent Office approved a new patent to tech giant Apple that will help device/devices expel droplets of liquid automatically using electrical energy. According to sources, the acoustic module present in the device will use pulse of energy to determine if there is any water and if so it will be expelled through the outlet by one of the electrodes. However, it is unlikely that this technology will be available to IPhone-6 versions of Apple and hence consumer will have to wait to use this clever idea that use sound and electricity to make iPhones more water resistant.
